How To Choose Your Next Automatic Vacuum Cleaner

October 13th, 2009 by Wesley Jones

With the advancements in robotic technology it was only a matter of time before we were given the automatic vacuum cleaner. These incredible inventions take control of the cleaning of your floors automatically so that you do not have to lug around that heavy upright vacuum machine. It is like having your own butler going behind you and sweeping up any dirt, crumbs, or debris. In fact, many people call them absolutely essential.

An automatic vacuum cleaner, of course, is not something that hides in a closet and comes out the second a piece of dirt is sensed. These small marvels of technology actually roam around your floor sucking up anything in its path. They are usually round and have rubber bumpers so they do not mark up walls, furniture, doors, and even legs. The automatic vacuum does not move all that fast so damage from one is minimal.

Choosing Your Next Automatic Vacuum Cleaner

When buying an automatic vacuum cleaner there are a few things to look at before making your final decision. After all, you do not want to purchase something that you are not going to be happy with. Here are a few things to look at when looking into your next purchase.

Run Time

It is a great convenience to have your vacuum cleaner automatically roam the floor hunting for those small dust bunnies and run away food particles. You can easily relax knowing that your floors are being taken care of. However, when the vacuum cleaner begins to run down your floors are not being cleaned. Since the automatic vacuum is still a relatively new appliance there are improvements being made on a continuing basis. When choosing one for you, make sure that it has a few hours of battery life before you need to plug it in again.

Size

Just as there are many different types of vacuum cleaners on the market, there are also different sizes of automatic vacuums. The first thing to look at is the size of the room you need the vacuum for and the size of the furniture. For instance, a large dining room, kitchen, and family room area will need a little bit larger vacuum than just a dining room. Because the automatic vacuum cleaner works through ultrasound to keep it moving around the room, a larger vacuum is better suited for larger areas. However, you will also need to take into account the height so it does not get stuck under furniture pieces.

Dirt Capacity

The amount of dirt that your automatic vacuum cleaner can hold is going to be a major selling point. If you have to constantly monitor, and empty, the canister then you might as well do the vacuuming yourself. Look for an automatic vacuum that has enough dirt capacity to last it for the few hours that it is running.

Price Point

Because automatic vacuum cleaners are relatively new they can be on the expensive side. However, with a little bit of research, and looking at what you need for your home, you can find the right vacuum cleaner for you and your home. Do not look at just the price as you will have to compromise on some of the more important points, but you also do not want to spend hundreds of dollars on something that you are not happy with.
